Meet Manish Singh

Lora Gilbert, Board Member

Board Director

Manish has been an active member of USFA’s Finance team for the past four years and has represented the Los Angeles Unified School District at various forums, and presented to the Secretary of Agriculture, members of Congress, and Policymakers. Manish has been in the hospitality industry for 45 years, the last 18 in school nutrition at Los Angeles Unified School District. As a lifelong learner, Manish has added certificates in School Business Management from the University of Southern California and the California Association of School Business Officials in the past five years to my portfolio.

Food has been Manish’s passion since childhood and while working for Los Angeles Unified, he realized the importance of school meals for the community. Focusing on two important aspects, one is the opportunity to improve meals by ensuring that they are flavorful along with being healthy, and nutritious, and the work at LAUSD has made tremendous strides to changing the perception of school meals and the options that students get daily. Secondly, managing resources so that the division and program are fiscally solvent and independent; for the past six years, LAUSD has maintained a healthy fund balance. Relationship building and communication are Manish’s strong attributes and has used them effectively to build consensus with different groups; during the pandemic, these relationships enabled the district to source and distribute 127 million meals to LAUSD students and the community.
