Urban School Food Alliance Names Michael Rosenberger As Chairman of the Board

NEW YORK, Sept. 28, 2018 –  Urban School Food Alliance (Alliance), a coalition of the largest school districts in the United States, has named Michael Rosenberger from Dallas Independent School District (ISD) as its new chairman of the board.

“I am truly honored to have been chosen as chairman of the Alliance,” said Rosenberger who also serves as the Executive Director of Food and Child Nutrition Services at Dallas ISD. “I work with talented and dedicated food service directors.  Together, we will continue to ensure that students have access to healthy, quality and delicious meals no matter their financial circumstances at home.”

Dallas ISD has been a member of the Alliance since its inception in 2012.  Prior to Dallas ISD, Rosenberger was the Director of Food & Nutrition Services (F&NS) for the Irving Independent School District. During his 16 years of service with Irving ISD, the food and nutrition services department was recognized both in Texas, and across the country, as a leading school food service organization. Mr. Rosenberger was named the 2004 recipient of the FAME “Rising Star” award and has been nominated several times for the IFMA Silver Plate award.

Through a partnership between the Food & Nutrition Services department and T.J. Lee Elementary School in 2007, Irving ISD became the first school district in Texas to have a campus earn the prestigious USDA Silver School designation, and, shortly thereafter, the first in Texas to have a campus earn the USDA Gold School designation. In March 2013, Mr. Rosenberger was voted chair SNA Texas’s Public Policy and Legislation committee. Food Management magazine named him their 2014 K-12 Innovator of the Year. Mr. Rosenberger earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree, with a major in Marketing, from the University of Houston. He later earned a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Houston.

Members districts of the Urban School Food Alliance include Dallas, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami-Dade, Orange County (Orlando), Broward County (Fort Lauderdale), Clark County (Las Vegas), Philadelphia, Baltimore City and Boston. They enroll nearly 3.7 million students and serve 631 million means annually. The nonprofit group allows the districts to share best practices and leverage their purchasing power to continue to drive quality up and costs down while incorporating sound environmental practices.
