On February 13, 2019, The Food Research & Action Center (FRAC) released School Breakfast: Making it Work in Large School Districts. Of the 76 large school districts surveyed for this report, 21 achieved FRAC’s benchmark of serving 70 low-income children with school breakfast for every 100 receiving school lunch for the 2018-2018 school year. LAUSD and Dallas ISD are among the top-performing school districts. Breakfast after the bell and community eligibility played a key role in boosting participation. A high proportion of students from LAUSD and Dallas ISD receive free or reduced-priced meals due to economic challenges at home, making these meals all the more important.
