WASHINGTON, April 25, 2024 – The Urban School Food Alliance stands behind the science-based, reasonable approach the USDA has taken to continue ensuring school meals are the healthiest meals possible. The School Meal Nutrition Standards Final Rule, announced yesterday, continues the progress we have made in school meals over the past 10 years. This new rule pushes the school meal pattern closer to meeting the most recent Dietary Guidelines for Americans, as well as open doors to an easier process for strengthening a sustainable, local, seasonal procurement process. All of these changes focus on the health and well-being of the students we serve as well as the communities we operate in. We are ready to share best practices as our districts across the country implement the new standards.
